The Ocean chanty Around Us By Phyllis McGinley

How vast, how clean
the ageless ocean!
Whether serene
or in commotion,
Haunted by gull
or dophin set,
How beautiful
how wild and wet.
Though rich and rare,
Its fauna and flora,
No evening there
And no aurora,
Instead, I think,
An awesome supply
of pearl and inky octopi.
From pole to pole,
what whales take coverin,
The moon its sole
Capricious sovereign,
Speaking in thunders
Through its sleep,
Ah, rife with wonders
in the deep.
The waters tell it
The Billows shout it
and I', fed to the teeth with
books about it.
